Summmmer Vacation!
June 17, 2011Hello Everyone — where to even begin?
As you all know, I started this year with the goal of truly appreciating where I am at and the opportunities around me. I spent the winter skiing, hiking, at lots of hockey games, ice skating, and trying to enjoy the snow (and all that comes with it!) as much as possible. I’m actively working on keeping the same strategy for summer — I’ve made a list of hikes to go on, and I’m trying one new one each week. B recently got me a day pack with a hydration liner — which helps me to (at least) feel like a real explorer!
I’ve also spent memorial day in Seward, AK camping with friends, fished for kings on the Deshka river, trained for the 1/2 marathon with countless runs along the coastal trail, found a bunch of baby black bears up a dirt road in a valley, and spent a weekend on Wasilla lake at the new RumRunner’s resort for a wedding. Plus, B is teaching me how to play golf, and I’m determined to at least get a few tennis games in on sunny days this year.
Speaking of the Mayor’s Marathon — I ran the course one last time last weekend — at least the first 10 miles. I was certainly sore Monday, but I did it, and I have confidence I’ll do it again this weekend! I tried hard to rest this week — but couldn’t resist a little biking, and some intense hiking! Gotta get out anytime you can up here
Kyle and Megan arrive tomorrow — and along with the run, I’m looking forward to our Homer trip (maybe even some fishing if Dad’s boat is in the water!), taking M to Girdwood for the first time (the mountain is open for hiking, as well as my typical favorite trail out to the hand cart! Plus, Fizz at The Seven Glacier’s once we get up to the top!). Not to mention Solstice adventures (Slightly Stoopid at Moose’s Tooth) here in Anchorage, and mayyyybe Flattop if we aren’t too sore!
Of course in other news — little sis is back living with us again for the summer. She’s taken up Horseback Riding — and we’ve resumed our bike riding! I dropped my bike off at the Bicycle Shop to get all tuned up for the summer. Can’t wait to pick it up — I’ve got my eye on some amazing looking new trails up on the Southside and out in Talkeetna!
Education wise — I’m taking a break from school for the summer. Resting up for full-time status in the fall again! and I LOVE IT. But really, who wouldn’t?
Looking forward to a BUSY week — and I’ll leave you with a picture update in the meantime!
